Indian Head Massage in Oxford

Anyone who has felt beautiful relaxation whilst having their scalp massaged during a visit to the hair dressers will understand the wonderful benefits of an Indian Head massage.

Indian Head Massage has its origins in an ancient grooming ritual called Champi which was first documented in Ayurvedic texts (around 600BC) Woman would perform ‘Champi’ within the family to help maintain healthy and lustrous hair.

It was a man called Narendra Mehta, who having been blind since the age of one and developing a sensitive power of touch, travelled to India (1978) and developed his own type of head massage using the Champi techniques that he had been brought up with.

Indian head massage has a whole host of benefits and is used for the following:

  • Helps prevent migraines, headaches and back pain

  • Promotes hair growth

  • Detoxifies the body by stimulating lymphatic growth

  • Relieves sleeplessness, restlessness and Insomnia

  • Relieves symptoms of anxiety and depression

  • Renews energy levels

  • Boost memory capabilities

Indian Head Massage is a treatment based on old Ayurvedic techniques involving work on the upper back, shoulders, neck, scalp and face. I also include a few Chinese head massage techniques for added therapeutic benefit. A variety of massage movements are used, designed to relieve accumulated tension, stimulate circulation and restore joint movement. Indian Head Massage may help reduce stress, tension and fatigue, increase mental clarity, and relax and rejuvenate the receiver.

Indian head massage is thought to help increase joint mobility and flexibility in the neck and shoulders, improve blood circulation and lymphatic flow, free knots of muscular tension, relax connective tissue, and may also aid in the elimination of accumulated toxins and waste products.
